Could There Be Something Wrong With My Brother Age 4?

By admin Posted in: Training

my little brother is 4 but he still doesnt talk right. he knows a few phrases and what some words are but he doesnt understand completely and cant have an actual conversation. he still speaks gibberish half the time and mixes real words with nonsense. i dont understand that because when i was 4 i could have a conversation with people and speak good just like all the other 4 year olds. and i was learning to read then. but my brother cant even read. is there something wrong with him or is it just that he is slow to develop? he also isnt completely potty trained. he will pee in the toilet but he wont go poop unless we make him sit on the toilet. and if noone takes him to the bathroom he pees on himself or poops on the floor. i was potty trained at 2 so i kind of expected it to be the same for him. and also he calls everything pista(pizza) or cookie and when i try to tell him the actual name he will repeat what i say but then continue to call it a cookie or say something in complete gibberish like a baby. i dont see how he can go to kindergarten next year if he cant talk like the other kids.

My son was also late speaking, he did not really put any words together until age 3, and he developed later than most kids. It is a good idea to have his hearing checked. My son had his hearing checked because the daycare was concerned about his speech, but he was fine. Boys tend to develop later than girls because boys are more focused on physical activity. My son is very very active but he wasn’t around other kids until he was 3. Once I put him in a daycare, he completely started improving on his speech. It was amazing how being other kids and teachers who r constantly working with him made a difference, but he still wasnt up to par with kids his age. Now, however, he is doing awesome. He just turned 5, and we have full blown conversations and he is potty trained. Definitely talk to ur mom and see if he can have a speech evaluation and hearing evaluation. It doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with him, it could mean he is either really focused on physical or he is just developing later than other kids his age. If he isnt in a daycare or preschool, I absolutely recommend it! It worked wonders for my son and they even helped potty train him too! (my son was t potty trained till age 4). But it is definitely wise to always have things checked out! It will only help him to start getting on track and developing quicker! Hope this helps!!

Talk to your Mom about this…. His development sounds slower than others in his age bracket. My sister in laws daughter was the same, but she had a hearing problem. He could be perfectly fine. Have his hearing checked.
