Do You Agree Or Disagree?

You must remember that the common criminal will always join the armed forces for, if nothing else, regular meals and expert training in the use of guns.

Like any profession the military attracts all types of people willing to do the job for various individual reasons… Some join out of patriotism, some join for lack of better prospects, some join to avoid prosecution (although technically not allowed this DOES happen). Others join because it gives them a chance to fire a gun and possibly blow someones head off. Assuming ALL people in the military enlisted to “serve their country” is propaganda. it’s a profession that presents people with a unique opportunity to hurt someone and be immune to legal repercussions (actually hurting people is what the job entails).. Of course certain kinds of people are going to be motivated to join given that fact.
The idea that the military is comprised entirely of our best & brightest is a fairy tale. People sign up for ALL different reasons… And I don’t think anyone would agree that every police officer chose that career so he can “protect and serve”.. or that every teacher became one because he or she loves children.

Disagree!! Today’s military are all volunteers and recruiting standards are higher today than when the draft was in place. Your “common criminals” will not be able to join today’s armed forces just to get regular meals and training in guns. Extensive background checks are done before a prospective “recruit” is allowed to enlist in any of the armed services.
Many of today’s military personnel (male or female) are there because (1) they volunteered out of patriotism and want to serve their country, (2) they enlisted after having lost jobs or no jobs were available in the civilian sector. (The pay isn’t the greatest, but it is steady, and the benefits aren’t too bad —better than some in the private/public sector). Some join just to get their college education paid for through a number of GI Bills..

You obviously know very little about the military or about criminals. Common criminals generally do have a record. Common criminals don’t want to be part of society which is what the military is. It is a hierarchy which demands obedience to a higher authority. Common criminals don’t buy into that. And your average American, much less your average criminal can’t enlist becaues he lacks education, medical or moral clearance.
    You really haven’t a clue.

    disagree.
for one the common criminal avoids violence and confrontation and most criminals dont even own a gun. the proof of that is the lowered crime rate in washington DC the year that handguns were legalized within the city. no criminal wants to get shot back at.
secondly, and more importantly, the common criminal is disqualified from service due to the military’s standards against criminal records.

Agree. I have heard people talk about joining the military simply because they wanted to kill people. On one occasion I had a military recruiter call me at home and I told them to “f*** off” (not the nicest thing, but they were being pushy after I had already made it clear I was uninterested) and hung up. They then called me back and said they had my address were going to come to my house and kill me. I also had a recruiter once say he liked going to other countries imposing his will on it’s inhabitants, who seemed quite serious about it, and when I criticized that he tried to get me to go outside and throwdown with him. So yeah, I definitely think the military has a tendency to attract some pretty sketchy and foul folks. Please note, I did not say all people in the military are guilty of this (my mom was in the Army and I think she is a good person) but I do think it is a real issue.

There are some cases where this has happened, but many times these criminals can’t stay straight while they are in the military and screw up and kicked out. And most common criminals don’t have what it takes to actually make it in the military.

  7. Anonymous Says

Nope. Because “common criminals” tend to lack discipline, and most have records that would disqualify them from the service.

I agree to disagree to agree with your ideology.

Disagree. All branches have higher standards in today’s day and age.

  11. M Says

Disagree. Not all the time! What if they wholeheartedly just want to protect their country?

What are you going to do when a “common criminal” has his way with YOU ?!?!
