How do I go about doing this? Thanks. I once knew a groomer who then became a handler and trainer. I never asked how she went about it. I know… she did not have formal schooling.

Animal Care and Service Workers perform a variety of tasks; one of which is being a trainer. Often, all that is needed is a GED or high school diploma and hands-on experience. However, there are also workshops and classes available at community colleges geared towards dog training/handling. This link will explain a lot about the profession. Also, I get a lot of information from my local public library so you can always check them out!

Professional handlers start when they’re very young – usually by showing as junior handlers, then they spend years working with professional handlers and learning. They make whatever they charge – each handlerl sets their own fees, has their own contracts, etc.
And it takes a very long time and a very thorough knowledge of dogs and shows to become a professional handler. Nobody would trust their dog to any handler without a reputation.
Handler in what discipline???
Go to a sanctioned show, speak to the handlers. Not too hard to figure out!
