I’m sick and tired of my dog running away. He is like a Houdini dog. He can get out of his collar and harness. So were thinking about getting an invisible fence cause a real fence is kinda pricey for our yard (I got an estimate) i have a few questions
1. Do they work
2. if my dog runs out of the fence how long will it shock him for (I’m worried it will shock him to death)
3. Do you need to train them to the fence
4. how bad is the shock?

1. If Your dog can deal with a shock, no. The dog will run right through it.
2.??
3??
4. You choose.
But please DONT get a shock collar. Put yourself in your dogs place. Ho would you like to be shocked?
1 – For some dogs, yes, they can be a solution. You have to know your dog to know if they can work. I know that they wouldn’t work for my dogs, even though they are wusses, because their prey drive is so high. If they saw a small furry animal, they’d be right out of there, shock or no. I would never let any dog spend time in an Invisible Fence unsupervised. Besides the escape factor, also keep in mind that while it may keep your dog in, it doesn’t keep anything out. Wild animals, aggressive dogs, or ill-meaning people can easily get into the yard, and your dog might not be able to escape.
2 – I believe it will only shock them as long as they are over the wire, though I could be wrong.
3 – Yes, and the fence comes with training instructions.
4 – While it’s strong enough to give them pause, it’s nowhere near strong enough to kill or physically harm them in any way.
If you have misgivings about the fence, I wouldn’t bother. Dogs don’t need fenced-in yards; just get him a properly fitted collar (martingales are great) and make sure he gets plenty of walks.
1-2.) Yes they work but if the dog is stubborn it can still get out. The collar stops shocking a few feet after the dog leaves the fence area.
3.) Best bet to train it is to stop just before the shock line and tell him to stop! or whatever your stop command is, reward him properly.
4.) I can’t be certain of the shock amount, never tried it. I personal don’t like the shock collar/fence but to each there own.
