Moved From House To Apt, Having Issues With Potty Training?

By admin Posted in: Training

I used to live in a house with a very nice, large backyard for my dogs to go outside to potty, run and play, etc. I had to relocate to save some money and moved into a second story two bedroom apt. I have a balcony and bought a “puppy potty” with the fake grass stuff and they are fooled for one min. They sniffed it for a sec then sat on it and looked at me like I was nuts. Two of the older, bigger dogs do fine with me taking them out to potty, but I’d rather not have to run up and down stairs for all four dogs. The other two I’d really like to teach them to go on puppy pads or this puppy potty thing. They seemed to figure it out for about a day (going on puppy pads), but then just stopped. Now they are going where ever they feel like it. I’m at my witts end but love my babies so much and hate to have to get rid of them!! I really need some advice!!
Thanks!

I taught my dog to use a potty pad. I always reward his efforts with a treat. I use the bacon strips and break them into several pieces, that way your dog wont be given too many treats. The dogs will very quickly realize that good behavior results in a reward. My dog is now 14 and he still gets a treat whenever he uses his pad. He always uses it and always gets bacon. I wouldn’t dare not give him the treat. They are smart enough to figure that one out too. Good luck to you. Patience is difficult but it will pay off in the end.

Why do you even have four dogs in an apartment in the first place?
