My Obedient Dog Is Acting Up!?

By admin Posted in: Dog Training

I have a 4 year old shelter mix, that I’ve had for about 3 years. He’s very easy to train, and he’s always obedient. Although he doesn’t like rules, he always follows them when he’s told. He doesn’t chew on things, and he has never had a problem with us leaving him alone. Lately, he’s been acting up. Just today, I came home to find that he’d pulled my purse along the floor and chewed a hole through it. I always leave my purse on the floor in the same spot everyday, and he’s never done anything like this before. He’s started to not obey simple commands as well. Is there something wrong with him? I play and give him lots of attention, but I haven’t walked him in a couple of days… I know that he is probably restless, but he runs a lot outside, and he plays all of the time. What is wrong with him? What can I do, other then walk him regularly?

You answered your own question: “but I haven’t walked him in a couple days.” You changed his routine and expect him to continue along the same. He isn’t getting the right amount of exercise and you need to make time to walk him like you did before. Dogs like a routine and when you change it they act up.

Sometimes when your dog doesn’t get the metal stimulation that they need they get bored, also with physical stimulation, you should try to walk them everyday! he could also be rebelling from you because you have not taken him for a walk and the thing he looks forward to the most has been taking away from him. try and take him for a walk and if this doesn’t help then try and see when his behaviour changes, whats happening, his surroundings, and his mood changes.

Walking a dog every day is a must. Running around outside is not enough. You haven’t walked your dog in 2 days, he’s bored and when a dog is bored, they can destroy your property. The more you exercise a dog, the less likely they are to become destructive. Unless your mix is having other medical problems that a vet needs to take care of, there is nothing wrong with your mix other than you need to exercise him more than you are, if he was that well behaved before his behavior changed. Exercise makes a big difference in a dogs certain behavior patterns.
