I have a puppy born on dec. 30th. I know he is young, but he wont make an effort to go to the bathroom outside. If i put him out he will but he wont go near the door or anything to show me he needs to go out. Is this normal? I do not scold him when he goes inside because i heard dogs wouldnt understand why im doing it. We tried bell training but it became a toy. Also when i feed him, once when i wake up, once after work, he always eats really fast and drinks all the water. Im feeding him about a cup and a half of dog food each time. Is it not enough?

I hope you work your way down through all the above garbage and disregard the harsh suggestions. Your puppy is now 7 weeks old, a good age to start housebreaking. Never put a puppy out, take it out. Unlike most of the people that have answered, I started out with good instructions and have learned from many many puppies. Done right, housebreaking can go fairly well although going to the door may take a little longer. There are too many details to repeat here. Please see may answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?…
A lot of you clueless other people that answered need to read it a too and quit posting answers reflecting your inexperience and ignorance. @Sophie and @Jacob, your harsh methods are unacceptable in this day. If you have nothing but discredited old wives tales to offer, don’t post.
He’s just a baby and you’re not making the effort to house train him. Putting a puppy outside teaches it nothing. You have to stay outside with the puppy and when he does oblige you can praise him with enthusiasm so he learns what you want.
We don’t know what breed or size your dog is so we don’t know how much food you should be feeding him. He must have fresh water available at all times because puppies dehydrate very quickly.
Take no notice of the idiots on here who keep telling people to put the pup’s nose in the accident or to spank the puppy. They know nothing about dog training and what they’re suggesting is abuse, not training.
make sure it has his rabies shot before taking it outside. Its normal, just take the wewe pads and put them out side after he has used them and continue to do so every time after he pees and eventually he will get the message. You can also take him outside after you have fed him and he drank water.
Remember that this takes time.
Amount of food, requires breed and size of the dog. for my yorkie, way too much…..
.It’s 3 months old, really its a baby still, consider yourself lucky it is going outside at all. As a puppy, they need to be told to go out they won’t tell you when the need to go, at about 12 months you can start bell training, or bark training. The best thing you can do with a puppy is to take them out regally and teach them outside is where they need to go. Don’t expect a puppy to know what to do, it’s still a BABY.
You should try getting a cage for your puppy because it’s easier to train him to use the bathroom outside. Dogs don’t use the bathroom around where they sleep so when you wake up you could take him out the cage and walk him outside. He’ll get used to going to the bathroom outside and he’ll understand he has to use the bathroom outside. But only have him inside the cage when it’s time to sleep.
When he goes in the house put his face near the mess and he will know that it’s bad, maybe two cups would be more suitable and always have a full bowl of water around the house
If the dog doesn’t listen you have two options.
Put it under a basket in confinement as punishment as soon as he pees indoors or you could KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
This is normal. Try putting old news paper on the floor just incase.
I think your feeding him enough.
And thats my biirthday
when he go potty inside put his face in it and spank him and tell no no ba dad then put him out side o in a cage for a while. i know this sound mean but it works
no hes ok u just not training him good
Depending on what breed your Puppy is some breeds can be very stubborn when it comes to bathroom training it takes hard work and dedication. i’m not sure how to train a puppy other than taking him outside on a leash and waiting for him to do his/her thing, and eventually it does become a habit for them and they start to understand. I know from my own experience i have been around dogs my whole life, and my mother and i used to breed dogs for years
. I happen to know Yorkies are the most stubborn to train when it comes to bathroom training (Just in case your puppy happens to be a Yorkie). You are feeding him just fine. I set the eating and drinking times for my dogs. I do not just feed them when they want to eat or drink. (sounds cruel) but that is how dogs become unhealthy. We maintain their diet to keep them healthy ^-^. Well hope i helped if this does not help maybe try asking a Veterinarian about the eating situation ok? Good luck & congrats on the new puppy
