Okay – Cats On The Counter And Tabletops ?

By admin Posted in: Training

How many REAL cat owners seriously believe that all the noise, punishment and training techniques really keep our cats off these places after we go to sleep at night.
Can any cat owner here honestly say with 100% certainty that their cats never get up on the counter or anyplace else we don’t allow them during the night.

LOL, I do not believe that any punishment whatsoever works. For owners who don’t let the cats on tables, counters and so on, they will be on there when the owners are sleeping. They are ‘hypocrit’ little things…
In my house though, none of my cats have to wait till I am in bed. Free for all! They go and do as they please. Hell, the baby even has to eat on the table so the others will not steal her food. It’s a good thing my father never comes to visit or he would be disgusted…..
And the kitchen counter is their favorite spot as they are right in front of the window so they have a close up of my outdoor critters. Squirrels, chipmunks, Blue Jays and a groundhog…..

They won’t get on your counters and table tops if you follow this advice: Get some of that double-faced rug tape. Cut some strips and stick to counter tops, table tops, etc., wherever you don’t want Kitty to jump. After her feet stick to the tape a few times (oh horrors, she yowls!) those surfaces won’t be so attractive to her, according to the Humane Society.

They don’t go on the counters but they do go on the table which drives me crazy. SO unsanitary!
I love my cats but I despise this little habit. I’m constantly washing off my table.
And no, I don’t believe that any “training” I offer them is going to make a difference.

LMBO – this is why we keep the counter and table tops cleared of all food and/or dishes. Its not as tempting. At some point in time they will be up there tho most of the night they ARE sleeping in our on on the bed with us.
Only real way to stop it is to lock them up at night.

We have 2 cats. And they were tough to train but what we did was take a squirt bottle and any time they jumped on something they werent supposed to we squirted them then put them in their kennel. We had to be consistent with it and eventually they got the point and dont jump up there anymore

My cats always do things like that. Every time you turn around, they are on the table. They know they aren’t supposed to do it though because when you notice them, they immediately jump off.
Training doesn’t work. cats are cats. You can’t tell them what to do.

My cat knows better then jumping up on counters and such in my presence, but you’re right, I can’t say he doesn’t when I’m not there. As for my other cat, she’s never had any urge whatsoever to jump up on things.

My cats go everywhere at all times, when visitors go: Ewwwww I shrug and explain that the one thing I like about my cats is their independence, if they don’t agree they can simply leave.

This is why they make soap and water :)
