so im home schooled and i want to go back to school for 8th grade and high school, but my dogs! i got them the summer before i was home schooled, they are 2 bichon frises. i wanted 1 but my little brothers found another bichon at the mall and begged for it, he was only $400! but somehow i got the responsibility of BOTH dogs which i feel is unfair. but the dogs aren’t poddy-trained and i don’t know what to do! one is going to be 2yrs in feb. and the other will be 2yrs in june. what to do with them 8hrs everyday?! they like my bedroom so im thinking of having them stay in there and ask my mom to let them outside every 3hrs…… any ideas, tips, suggestions?

I’m sad that you feel it is unfair to have responsibility for both dogs – it should be fun. See if you can get into a training class to learn how to relate to your dogs, and to teach them some skills and tricks. If that is not possible, get some books or online info about training. You will find you are much closer to them emotionally when you work with them.
To potty train, you must get them on a schedule of going outside every few hours, praise & treat (using a cue, like “potty”, “hurry up”, “find a spot”, etc.) if/when they “go”, and watch them very carefully in between those times for signs of needing to “go”. They should learn quickly at this age, but only if you are consistent. Take them out the second they start to “go” inside and say “outside” (cue word) to teach them the word “outside”. You may need to crate them in the house for awhile to teach them the idea and get them on a schedule.
After you have them somewhat trained, I’ll bet your mom will be so impressed she will be happy to let them out on schedule. If not, perhaps you can install a doggy door for them (you still have to train them where to go). Enjoy – bichons are SO sweet.
Yes…house train your dogs. How in the world do you live with 2 dogs who still aren’t potty-trained? You have several months to accomplish that. Then the dogs will be fine from when you leave for school until you get home at lunch. On the days you’re not coming home for lunch, arrange with mom to let them out.
If they are house trained, they can then have the run of the house, assuming that’s okay with mom. Being stuck in your bedroom is not much of a life for them….
take to shelter and let someone else try to train them
why would you have two indoor dogs for two years not trained and now want to know what to do with them all day.
same as now nothing
Honestly you shouldn’t leave them locked up all day. Consider leaving them with a neighbor who could play with them and give them attention. Take a look on http://www.PartTimePals.org
CRATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Separately,of course.
ask you mom
My situation is very similar. I’m 15, and recently began getting homeschooled as well. But because it wasn’t working out, I’m being sent back to school. They’re just transferring all my papers and stuff, so I’m waiting right now.
What we plan to do with the puppy is bring him to a puppy daycare. It’s not expensive and my parents are off work 2 – 3 days a week. If you can’t find one in your area, put them in a room together and they should occupy each other. Leave some toys out, water, food, and maybe some peepads since you said they’re not housebroken. You can buy peepads at any pet store and the dollar store for like a buck. Puppy proof the room till you can’t anymore so they don’t hurt themselves while your gone. Come home for lunch each day to take them out for a walk, then put them back in the room together.
Hope this helps a little, good luck with your puppys!
Let them stay outside if you have a yard that is fenched in but if not a dog house with bows papper in side it then just clean it when you get home :/)
