From the competitions I’ve seen videos of, I usually see American Bulldogs and some APBT. What other breeds usually enter into weight pulling competitions?
I also noticed that most of the dogs entered into the weight pulling competitions are working dogs or are said to be working dogs. Which leads me to my next question-what type of work do they do? What does the weight pulling training do to help them with their work?

Most common is the American Pit Bull Terrier. And let’s not forget this dog was breed over 175 years ago (but not YET an actual breed) and one of it’s working abilities was to assist the farmer/rancher in pulling dead weight. Such as large animals (cows/bulls/horses) and also pulling carts full of trash/garbage/trees/dirt from areas needed to put a house/barn etc.
The APBT IS a WORKING breed. But the type of *work* it did for the pioneers decades ago is not used much today.
Therefore to continue the *tradition* of the many things this breed was bred for, there are weight pulling competitions.
The dog who holds the world record to my knowledge:

Working dogs are dogs who are trained to preform certain working tasks. Working doesn’t necessarily mean a task that is beneficial for humans. Working can mean a competitive sport in which a dog has to “work” or put effort into to win.
Edit: Collies and other breeds are used in agility sports and they are considered working dogs because they perform a specific task.
I’ve only every seen Pit Bulls, American Bulldogs, very rarely a Rottweiler, and Am. Staffs entered in these competitions. Generally, any breed can be entered, but usually it’s only Bully breeds or mixed dogs with a bully breed in them.
A working dog is a breed of dog put into the Working class of dogs, because it was bred to perform a specific task or duty. For example, a Border Collie is a working breed and I believe was bred to herd sheep and other livestock. Dogs such as Pit Bulls were bred for Fighting and Bull Baiting, which is where the dog will throw themselves at the Bull and attack it, trained only to stop when they are completely exhausted, or due to loss of blood. On a lighter note, Pit Bulls are used in all kinds of things now. I’ve even seen some Pit’s trained to herd, which is completely unnatural for them, but that dog was absolutely great at it. They are used in agility sometimes too, but Weight Pulling is probably the top event they’re used in now. I’ve actually been trying to get some agility equipment because one of our dogs can nearly jump our fence, and has incredible energy, and he would just be a great fit in the agility section of the dog world.
Any really, but most common seem to be ABPT, AmStaff, AmBulldogs, Sib Huskies, Malamutes etc.
I’ve read an article on a Chihuahua competing in weigh pull.

As far as I am aware, pretty much any breed of dog can and are entered into weight pulling competitions (I saw a video of a miniature Poodle weight pulling once) but the most common ones are Cane Corsos, Boxers, Bullmastiffs, Bull Terriers and other powerful breeds.
Working breeds mainly. But any can do it. Check out the record holders http://www.iwpa.net/IWPA_Championships.h…
